Josh has been a artist since “forever” ; making movies growing up in within the city of Dartmouth in Mi’kma’ki (Nova Scotia, Canada) .

Graduating from the NSCC Screen Arts program in 2015: Emerging as an independent filmmaker within the film community of Halifax- creating original short films such as “Humanity Hyuck Hyuck!!! (2015) ” , Lizards Lacking Love (2016) “Wizardly Wickedly Weeping (2016) ” , “Ghoulish Galactic Grievances (2019) “ & “Billy’s Behemoth Blast (2017) “ : each utilizing a progressively wider kaleidoscope of visual and audio storytelling techniques with each story being an excuse for another eschalon of innovation to their craft.

Short films taught Josh that filmmaking is not limited to a computer program, or a camera lens- as their artistic practice understood itself to encompass the following 5 disciplines:

“ Writing, Illustration, Animation, Astrology & Video Games ”

Since 2020 Josh has been calling the Town of Mahone Bay in South Shore Nova Scotia their home: working on a deeply personal animation entitled “Depression’s Demonic Duration” while continuing to cultivate their Location Sound Recording business JOSH OWEN FILMZ.

Josh’s award winning short films have played at the Vancouver International Film Festival, Toronto After Dark, Festival Du Nouveau Cinéma, Festival REGARD, FIN: Atlantic International Film Festival, Torino Short film market, Animation Festival of Halifax and the Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival.
